Today in Star Wars history, David Prowse passes away in London at the age of 85.
A former body builder who stood at 6 feet, seven inches and weighed in at 275 pounds, Prowse was the perfect stature to perform Darth Vader’s bodily movements in the original trilogy.
Combined with James Earl Jones’ iconic voice, David helped create one of the most imposing, sinister and terrifying villains in all of cinema.
In the words of his agent Thomas Bowington,
