Today in Star Wars history, The Old Republic launches!
On December 20th, 2011, after more than five years of development and at a cost of over $200 million, BioWare and LucasArts release the massively multiplayer online roleplaying game Star Wars: The Old Republic.
On the back of positive reviews and a series of breathtaking cinematic trailers, hype for the game is at an all time high, resulting in over 1.5 million subscribers within its first month of launch. This makes Star Wars: The Old Republic one of the fastest-growing MMORPGs of all time.
The game maintains a solid fanbase over the course of its lifetime, and with its story taking place thousands of years prior to the main saga films, it quickly becomes a fan favourite era in Star Wars history.
